Bronchoscopy is minimally invasive techniques for evaluation of various lung pathology. Procedure is usually done as day case procedure under conscious sedation and local anesthesia. In this procedure a small tube with mounted camera (Bronchoscope) is passed through nostril. Scope is further passed through larynx, trachea and both right & left bronchial tree is systematically inspected for any endoluminal abnormalities. Apart from airway inspection, various other diagnostic procedure and sampling techniques can be used via bronchoscopy. Depending upon clinical conditions bronchoscopist may do Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), Endobronchial wash, Endobronchial biopsy (EBLB), Trans bronchial biopsy (TBLB) and Trans bronchial needle aspirations (TBNA). Bronchoscopy is essential in diagnosis of lung cancer with central lesion, various infectious and parenchymal diseases.
